in the past recent weeks, i was interested to learn how to make a valid html
i don't really do much search on google i just do some reading on w3c and found out that a valid html document must have a DOCTYPE!(document type declaration) dispite if you don't use DOCTYPE! on your html your document will work just fine in some browser (or something like that)
simply DOCTYPE! is what needed by the validator to know wich kind of html do you use and there's three kind of DOCTYPE! that you can use in HTML 4.01
the strict one: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"> the strict type is used with cascading style sheets and helps to ensure clutter-free coding
the transitional: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> the transitional type is used when HTML presentational features are included in the document instead of in a style sheet this is done to accomodate older browsers that don't support css
the frameset: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Frameset//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/frameset.dtd"> the frameset type is used in documents that have frames
one more, don't forget to use a character encoding simply add <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1"> on your html, in the <head> section
i know my blog is not a valid html 4.01 actually i don't use DOCTYPE! on my template hey i'll work on it soon, but i'm not promising anything :)
